LESSON 15
Re-train your brain  (Daily Reminders)

 LESSON  15
Re-train your brain  (Daily Reminders)

Re-train your brain

Our brains are incredibly sophisticated computers which can be programmed for success or failure. You know that when you type the ‘A’ button on your keyboard that the letter ‘A’ appears on your screen. The same is true of us. If we keep saying to ourselves that we have a poor memory or can never lose weight, then we will have a poor memory or struggle to lose weight. Our brains effectively deliver what we expect of them.

Daily Reminders is the psychology of personal conditioning and training your brain for success (and all that this means to us).
Picture

Joe Karbo in his famous book ‘The lazy man's way to riches’ stated that  we can programme our brains to be successful by repeating daily reminders every morning and every evening - first thing when we awaken and then last thing before we go to sleep.

When you awaken first thing in the morning just take a few minutes to sit quietly, read and reflect upon your Daily Reminders. This will help to ensure that you then focus on your priorities for each day. It will also continue the positive reinforcement process.

Likewise, it's too easy to go to sleep with all the troubles and difficulties of the past day still buzzing around in your brain. It makes much better sense to read your positive daily declarations before you go to sleep and give your brain these to work on these over the course of the night.

While you're asleep in your brain (subconscious) can be focusing on all the potential linkages, contacts and opportunities for pushing each of your Daily Reminders forward and making them a reality. You are literally programming your own brain for the exact success that you want.

What do you really want to do?

This is the central question for each of us. It’s about your purpose and achieving all that is important to you. If you don’t know where you are going, it’s unlikely that you are going to get there.

We are only here once (I think) so what’s your big dream or ambition? Describe this. What does it look like? What does success look like for you in two/five years’ time?  Where will you be in all areas of your life?  As you write out your Daily Reminders be ambitious for all that you want to see happen in your life.

Writing your Daily Reminders

Your Daily Reminders should always be written in the present/past tense. They will begin with words such as:

I own...
I created...
I provide...
I help...
I manage...
I visit...
I improved...
I live...
I earn...
I built...
I developed...
I have...
I am recognised as...
I established...
I wrote...
I offer...
This year I...
I am currently responsible for...

It doesn’t matter if you believe what you are saying as long as you can imagine it to be true. That’s all that your brain needs to get to work for you. You can be as imaginative and ambitious as you want to be. You are literally writing your future.  Have fun with this playlist!

Make sure you cover all your priority areas (and passions) including work, family, success, personal development, relationships, earnings, ambition, contribution, helping others, health, wellbeing, tackling new challenges, travel, passive income, personal issues, where you live, businesses you own, etc. etc.

Build in personal/personality reminders to help you, such as –
  • I really enjoy watching my career unfolding each day with exciting new opportunities and achievements,
  • I am always positive and can see the best in every situation and person, • I have an incredible memory and can recall ….
  • I achieve specific career and work outcomes every single day,
  • My role as an X offers me unlimited opportunities to build new career routes and possibilities.
  • Every day I discover new ways and ideas which bring me closer to all my objectives.

Your Daily Reminders may include how you'd like to feel: "I'm energetic; I feel fantastic; or I feel safe". You can include how you'd like your life to be: "I'm a thriving individual; I attract positive individuals into my life; or I solve issues easily".

EXERCISE - Write out your Daily Reminders

Get a notebook for this or keep it on your phone for easy reference.

Reading your Daily Reminders

Read your Daily Reminders first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Imagine and visualise each one as you say it - the different roles, the unfolding plans, your workplace, the journey to, you playing a part in, the new ebook, the new contract, the launch of your, etc.   Make sure that your language is always positive. Have clear objectives (and pictures) for the different areas of your life.

Be forward looking – what exactly will you be doing one year from now?  Make it a daily reminder.

Try and visualise in detail, the house you are living in, the new job, the holidays you are taking, the healthy lifestyle you are living, the ways you are helping others, etc. Be as clear (colours, figures, amounts, locations, sounds, dates, emotions, etc.) as you can - for these are the images your brain will work towards.

Additional points

  • A different way to formulate Daily Reminders is to utilize them to counter your damaging self-talk. When you find yourself stating something negative to yourself, develop a Daily Reminder that counterbalances the damaging thought and begin using it till you feel differently about yourself.

  • Repeating the Daily Reminders aloud is better than doing it silently as you hear the words from ‘outside’. If you're in a situation where you can’t repeat them aloud, do them silently.

  • Read your Daily Reminders shortly after you get up as it will help focus your day. Don’t start your day filling your brain with other people’s stuff like Facebook. Read your Daily Reminders just before bedtime and your subconscious brain will be working on these all night.

  • If you want to speed up the process, then sit somewhere quiet with no distractions and say your Daily Reminders two or three more times during the day.  Keep your Daily Reminders on your phone. Some people also read them on the way to work.

  • Don’t be impatient!  Don’t just read your Daily Reminders for a week or two and then give up. It took us more than a week to get to where we are. Give your Daily Reminders at least a serious thirty-day trial. It’s a big prize – so it’s worth the effort!  Remember, your brain will be continually looking for opportunities to make all your Daily Reminders actually happen.

  • You can update or add to your Daily Reminders at any time…… keep them current.

Start today and find 15 minutes to have a cup of coffee and begin to write out your Daily Reminders. It’s never too soon or too late to be all that you want to be.
