LESSON 11
Positive Language

LESSON  11
Positive Language

Mind your language

‘I’ve only got a part-time job.'

Congratulations! This is your first workpiece. You’ve started. Now add a second and a third. Any work that gives you income is a success. Be happy with your achievements. Never say 'I only...'

‘I’m just working as a cleaner.'
Don’t apologise! You have a workpiece that pays. You can build on this and change it later. Give it your very best. Make a difference. Never say  'I'm  just...'

'I can't  …  '  / 'I'm no good at ….'

These are more examples of  negative language that  holds us back.  Change this to  I'd love to have a go at this. I'm keen to learn how to do this.

Dealing with Challenges or Difficulties

Make a resolution now never to use the words such as ‘problem’, ‘difficultly’ or ‘can't’ again.

Instead when faced with challenges or difficulties use better words such as opportunities or possibilities. You should get used to saying phrases such as:

·       Let's look at this.
·       Can we explore some possibilities…?
·       Let's see if we can find a way through this.
·       Yes, we will sort this out.
·       Let's create a few options.

Delete all negative language from your vocabulary.

Never again say I can’t, this isn’t working or that’ll never happen. Change everything to positive language and give your brain the chance to find the solutions you need.

Always use Positive language

Your brain will respond to the messages that you send. So if you say I can't do this or this won't work then that's exactly what will happen.

Don't use words like problems, impossible or unlikely. Use words such as opportunity, exciting or looking forward to or sorting this.

Give your brain the chance to discover new opportunities, find solutions and to be creative in helping you to move forward.

Use positive language then like I can, I will or this will be fun,,,,,,

EXERCISE - Changing our words to create new possibilities

Here are a list of words or phrases that may have heard others  using:

I  have a terrible memory.
I'll never lose weight.
I'm no good at marketing.
I'll never get  a job doing what I love .

How would you change these phrases into  positive statements?

Picture
EXERCISE -  How is your day going so far?
Tell me  in three short sentence about your day so far....

I'm interested in your successes, what  you have achieved or learned and how you have made progress in key areas  that are important to you.

No matter what has happened keep all your language positive!!!

Always say 'yes'!

If someone asks for your help, advice or assistance - then always say yes!

By saying yes we open up ourselves to new possibilities, new arrangements,  new relationships and new direction.  Even if you don't know the answer - you can still offer to help and you will probably be able  to find someone who does know what to do.

Every time we say yes to someone and offer to help them we are in effect receiving an incredible gift of possibilities - we are opening up the potential of a massive range of personal development opportunities, for them and us.

So
1.      Say yes
2.      Approach the opportunity with a smile and enthusiasm
3.      Look to deliver the real practical help they need
4.      Explore the potential to build upon the relationship with the person
5.      Are there ways to extend and build upon what you've both been looking at.
6.      Look to see how it can add value and link to other aspects of the work that you are interested in.

The alternative to saying yes is to say no.

What this does is reduce our capability and capacity. We tell ourselves that we don't want to do things, that we are not capable of doing things. We communicate that we are not interested in helping people. These are not the messages that can help us in moving forward.

Likewise don't think what's in this for me? This too reduces the range of possibilities and forces our thinking inwards.

By reaching outwards, being positive and saying yes we create the person that people want to engage with and work with. We build relationships and opportunities that sustain our own development and ambitions. We find more people who want to work with us and help us.

The reality is that we create our success through other people. When  someone asks for our input we have a great opportunity that we should be thankful for and determined to make the most of.

EXERCISE -  Yes, of course

Think of one or two situations where someone might ask for your help.

Resolve next time to  say yes  and treat it as an adventure!
