Ten quick questions on Good Relations for everyone in Northern Ireland

GOOD FRIDAY AGREEMENT - 20 YEARS ON
It is almost twenty years since the signing of the Good Friday (or Belfast) Agreement on the 10 April 1998. In those twenty years significant funding has been provided to Northern Ireland and the Border Counties to address the legacy of the troubles and improve relations across the community.

Diversiton is carrying out an independent review of peoples' ideas about the future development of Good Relations in Northern Ireland. 'Good Relations' is an overall term to include the focus of 'Peace', 'Community Relations' and 'Good Relations' funding programmes. The results of the review will be published in May 2018 and available online.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
The historical funding perspective has, understandably, been concentrated on addressing divisive issues which are a direct legacy of 'the troubles' - concerns about flags, emblems, parades, bonfires and so on. The overall aim of the current review is to seek views on the continuing priority of these funding imperatives but also to construct a broader perspective on Good Relations moving forward – one that explores all current needs and opportunities, reflects a more multicultural Northern Ireland, takes account of future landscapes (such as Brexit) and is motivated to create opportunities for all.

BENEFITS FOR ALL
Those responding are asked to not be limited by the framework or methodology of current EU funded Peace Programmes nor by traditional Northern Ireland funded strategies relating to Good Relations, Community Relations or Community Development.

This is an opportunity to explore new possibilities and new ways of working. In short, to consider how we can better leverage the potential of all for the benefit of all?

YOUR VOICE
Our aim is to make this process as inclusive as possible. Individuals of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas.

We would especially welcome feedback from those who may not normally input into 'consultations,' including school children (or classes if teachers would like to organise and report back a discussion) and young people, the self employed, people of faith, those who are unemployed, all women, older people, individuals working in business - and all those who feel that they have not seen the benefits of Peace in their lives, families or localities. Those who live outside of Northern Ireland are encouraged to give their thoughts also.

We aim to ensure that all comments and contributions are credited in the final report (unless you request otherwise).
